Seeing as these two figures are standing next to one another, they are resembling the scale they have from one another.  "The souvenir speaks to a context of origin through a language of longing, for it is not an object arising out of need or use value." These two pieces I created we're for both of my grandparents. Each one in a different language but when combined they create a whole piece themselves resembling the relationship I have and they have with me.  "The souvenir reduces the public, the monumental, and the three-dimensional into the miniature, that which can be enveloped by the body."   Keep Looking Wooden dowels, wood flooring, paper butterflies from book pages, wood glue, wire, yellow and orange highlighters 15", 17", 12.5" Inspiration:                        My inspiration images for Keep Looking are based upon the 'cut out' method, and an  ara mitama. The 'cut out' method is where you find a page with text on it, wether its from a newspaper, a book, or a printed piece of paper, and you cut individual words or phrases from this page and use it to create a completely different meaning than the way it originally started. An ara mitama is a japanese creature from an anime series called Ayaka. These creatures represent anger, aggression, and other heated emotions. In the anime they make a big appearance and they must be fended off by the main protagonist. The creatures come from the people that visit the island, Ayaka. 1. Sea Glass: The sea glass found in this blue vase is from a trip I went on with my family. We went to Puerto Rico during this past summer and it was a great memory I made with my brother. It reminds me of our bond. 2. Iridescent Turtle: This little guy actually opens up. In its shell is where I store all of the shark teeth I've found on any and all beach trips I've been on. A lot comes from Vilano, but it reminds me of these adventures. 3. Polaroid Camera: This camera was given to me as a Christmas gift from my parents. I've taken a few images with it already and it really captures the important moments well. It reminds me that time goes by fast, but any image I've taken with this camera is like capturing the memories that follow with it.  4. Iridescent Kunai Knifes: These knives I had bought for myself. I have never wanted to purchase a knife before, let alone throwing knives. But these were something I saw and I have enjoyed them ever since. They also remind me of ...
